MicroblogsMicro-blogs are Internet Communities that are designed around the capability for people to post short messages either from a web browser or by Short Text Message (SMS) from a cellular telephone. Each one of these communities have their own vibe and everyone is unique, doing something that is common place one may get you banned on another. Indeti.caIndentica is the largest Laconica ( http://Laconi.ca ) microblog, since it is run by the people that are running that free software project. A very useful resource for people that are interesting in Free ( Open Source ) Software applications (for example Laconica) and the GNU / Linux operation system. We are testing this application for our clients and have a prototype site running behind a firewall. If you are interested in using micro-blogging techonlogy in a closed environment as a means to communicate with people within your organization, we are the people to talk to. PlurkPlurk is a real community and people are very friendly and like talk to each other, it's a good example of an Internet Community and everything a "Social Media Expert" would call a "Waste of Time". Which is fine with us, because all they want to do if tell us stuff we can either lookup for ourselves or couldn't care less about in the first place. We are happy to be part of this community. JaikuJaiku is another interesting network that runs off of a google provided service. Jaiku seems to have a large user based of people from the Computer Science and Information Technology professions. We need to spend more time on this network, since there is a lot more here to discover. You can also post to Jaiku using an SMS Short Code: 30300, we keep all the short codes for all of our Internet Communities in our cell phone address book.
