Software Freedom

Software Freedom is about you being able to do anything that you want with your computers, without any restrictions placed on you by a third party. You should always beware of any outside influence on your business, since it could put you out of business.

Software Freedom includes your rights to run, copy, distribute, study and make changes to the software that you use. Access to the source code is essential to your software freedom, regardless of the level of your computer skills.

Software Freedom also protects you from treacherous programming practices that are being employed by some proprietary software to collect information about you. This information can turned over to marketing companies or law enforcement agencies without your authorization.

  1. The freedom to run the program for any purpose. This means that you are free to use it at home or in your business without any restrictions.
  2. The freedom to study how the program works and adapt it to your needs. Which requires that every user has access to the source code.
  3. The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor. This includes the freedom to charge money for it or give it away.
  4. The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public.

How You Benefit from Software Freedom

When you use a Computer in Business or at Home you can benefit from using free software. The Linux Operating System, Apache Web Server, Open Office Suite and Firefox Web Browser are all examples of free software. Many of these applications are also available free of charge on the Internet.

Many times, software companies will make software appear to be free. However when you read the license you find out that it isn't really free. This is the reason why Free Software is about freedom of choice, not how much it costs.

The Microsoft® Tax Stamp

Many people agree to pay for a tax stamp that appears on most new computers because Microsoft has spent billions of dollars to make people believe that they don't have any other choice. Working with the major electronics chains, they have also made sure that the Microsoft® Tax Stamp appears on every computer system on their sales floor.

The good news is that you do not have to pay that tax. People have the freedom of choice over the software applications that they use on their computers. This freedom of choice is what Software Freedom and Free Software are all about.

Break the Bonds of Software Restrictions

Software Freedom enables you to able to do anything that you want with your computers, and includes your rights to run, copy, distribute, study and make changes to the software that you use. Since, you must have access to an application's source code in order for it to be free, which is why the term "Open Source Software" is used by some people when they are talking about free software.

Software Freedom is about you being able to run your business without any restrictions placed on you by a third party. Beware of any outside influence on your business, since it's that outside influence could put you out of business.

Give Your Business an Edge

Software Freedom is important to you because free software will give your business an edge over your competition. Money that you save on software licenses can be used to offset other business expenses or just increase your bottom line.

We help people make the change from proprietary software applications and operating system as easy as possible and address any issues where a specific software program has become essential to your business. We realize that your business may require proprietary software to perform some essential tasks and that your change strategy addresses those needs.

The Power of the Penguin

The key to Software Freedom is a little penguin named “tux”, which is the official mascot of the Linux® Operating System. Linux gives you the ability to do just about anything that you can imagine to do on the Internet. Most internet providers and web hosts use Linux and free software applications to run their data centers.

Linux works well with other operating systems, which allows you to network Linux servers and workstations with proprietary servers and workstations. In addition to working with people that use the Linux operating system and Open Source Software (OSS) applications, we also support Open Source Software (OSS) applications that are compatible with other operating systems. For example, Open Office, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Apache Web Server and PHP are all examples of Open Source Software (OSS) applications that are compatible with other operating systems.

Linux helps you maintain a smooth operation while protecting you from outside threats and the loss of valuable data files. Linux is more stable then other proprietary operating systems and minimizes system downtime.

We Can Set You Free

We can help you develop a strategy that will make the change to Linux as painless as possible, which will greatly reduce or eliminate entirely the risks associated with proprietary operating systems.

Software Freedom is important to you because it gives you complete control over your computing assets. A carefully planned migration strategy will help you declare your independence from proprietary software. Software Freedom gives your business an edge over your competition.

Software Freedom Day

Software Freedom is about Innovation and taking advantage of resources that your competition doesn't even know exist. We can work with your on the Internet, by telephone or in person depending on the scope of your project and the requirements of your business.
